Holiday Decorating Ideas from South Winds Apartments

A comfortable looking room with a holiday tree, stockings, and other white and red decorations.

The idea of decorating your apartment for the holidays can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Decorate a little each day to make the task less overwhelming. Need some decorating ideas? Our South Winds Apartments Blog is sharing some of our favorite holiday decorating ideas with our residents in this post.

Display Your Greeting Cards

Bring out the holiday or season’s greeting cards from your friends and family and put them on display for an easy way to show some holiday spirit. Stand them up on a table, display them on your tree, arrange them on the wall in the shape of a tree, or hang them on a bulletin board with some twinkling lights. Get some ideas for how to display your cards from Shutterfly.

Make Paper Snowflakes

Cut out some snowflakes and hang them up around your apartment. Hang them in the windows, from the ceiling, and in the doorways using clear fishing line and tape. Follow the step by step directions from Instructables if you need a refresher on making paper snowflakes.

Build a Miniature Forest

Use green cardstock to make a mini evergreen forest to set on your mantle. Cut the cardstock into various sized circles and then fold the papers accordion-style and layer them on top of each other. Use glue to hold them together. Make tree trunk bases from small wooden dowels or old corks. To get an idea of what the final product should look like, check out this image from HGTV. You could also check out this tutorial from Homedit on how to make these Mini Yarn Christmas Trees.

Create a Gift Bow Wreath

Use a styrofoam wreath form, holiday gift bows, and some hot glue to make a lovely gift bow wreath to hang on your front door or anywhere in your apartment. Check out this example from Woman’s Day (slide 18). Or you could also make a festive wrapping paper wreath like this one from Centsational Style.
